Optical amplification is one of the primary enablers for fiber optic networks. Two of the most common amplification techniques are Erbium-doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) and Raman Amplifiers.

These components are constructed through connecting specialty fibers with other components, active or passive to complete the desired outcome.
