AC Photonics Introduces Dispersion Compensation Module

AC Photonics, Inc. (AC) introduced a new product offering to its growing portfolio of Active Optical Modules. The new offering, MDCM-1-S-C-00, is a Manageable Dispersion Compensation Module (MDCM). Along with AC’s recently introduced tunable transponders, this new product made an important addition to AC’s new active product line.

MDCM-1-S-C-00 is an integrated and tunable module, designed for remote management of dispersion compensation applications, or for reduction of in-line amplification requirements, under both submarine and terrestrial conditions. It can also be used as a replacement for multiple Dispersion Compensation Fibers (DCF’s), for the function of both pre-compensation and post-compensation of a single channel.

MDCM-1-S-C-00 features compact size with out layer dimensions of 3.27 x 2.64 x 0.62 inch only. It uses a 3.3v single power supply. The integrated module contains two Tunable Optical Dispersion Compensators (TODC’s) as its key components, each with Gires-Tournois (GT) etalons cascaded in free-space and sealed in AC’s standard 16-pin butterfly TODC package.

MDCM-1-S-C-00 has chromatic dispersion compensation values up to +/- 1200 ps/nm. It supports 25 GHz and 33 GHz channel spacing and is suitable for 10 Gbps RZ (Return to Zero) or NRZ (Non-return to Zero) modulation. The module is integrated with I2C and RS232 interface enabling remote management of dispersion compensation over entire C-band.

MDCM-1-S-C-00, like other new products in AC’s active product line, is in compliance to Telecordia GR-468, 300-pin MSA (Multi Source Agreement), and RoHS Directive 2009/95/EC.

Manageable Dispersion Compensation Module (MDCM), like AC’s tunable transponders, is an active optical module, and as such, is part of AC’s continuous efforts to achieve more product diversity from its original portfolio of passive fiber optical components.
